With the holidays looming many of us are looking for ways to make our homes feel even more cozy this season. By incorporating the holiday design tips below, even the most modern homes can feel warm and festive this winter.

Warm up your Lighting

The biggest change you can make to up your cozy factor is the lighting. Nothing is cozier than the warm light of the fireplace or a room draped with fairy lights. Turn off your bright white lights in the evening and cuddle up on the couch with some warm lighting.

Create a Scene with Scents

Coziness is a feeling; we need more than just visual elements to bring this feeling to life. Adding a warm scent can completely change the energy in your home to an inviting space. Not to mention, scents invoke memories, so try to pick a scent that invokes a cheerful and festive memory.

Bring in the Green

Incorporating plants in an interior space has been proven to boost moods, this must mean that more greenery equals more happiness. Load up your living space with garland, trees, and wreaths to liven up hard surfaces like railings, mantles, and surfaces. Try adding some wreaths in unique places, such as on cabinet doors, to add in some extra interest in places without décor.

Have a Focal Point

When it comes to holiday decorations, sometimes it is hard to figure out how to put up every important piece of decor for your traditions without overwhelming the space. The easiest way around this is by choosing your focal point and extending your decorations outward. Common places for a focal point are a fireplace mantle, a staircase, or a Christmas tree.

Create a Cohesive Color Palette

On the same note, create a consistent color scheme with your decorations. With one color scheme you can pile on the decorations without having sensory overload. You want to be able to include all the holiday decorations you have collected over the years without feeling overwhelmed in a space that is meant to be relaxing.

Add in the Blankets

Finally, add in the extra cushiony texture with some extra blankets and pillows. You’ll know you’ve added enough when all you want to do is sit on the couch with a hot cup of your favorite drink and never leave.
